An analysis of 56 published studies on work site health promotion programs by the American Journal of Health Promotion offers some very good news for health advocates – a nearly $6 savings, or “return on investment” (ROI), for every dollar spent on employee wellness programs.
The payoff comes in the form of an average 27% reduction in sick leave; a 26% reduction in health costs; and a 32% decrease in workers’ compensation and disability claims.
Organizational execs typically cite a paucity of solid, quantified evidence on ROI as a reason for reluctance to invest heavily in wellness and health promotion programs. Well, boys and girls, here’s what you’ve been waiting for. Now, start spending seriously on wellness – it works, and it saves you money!
